HOURS OF OPERATION:
Performances are held on Fridays, Saturdays and

The Arlington Friends of the Drama, now known as
AFD Theatre, was founded in 1923 and is one of the
ten oldest continually operating community theatre
groups in the United States. Residing in the original
church building of St. John’s Episcopal Church, the
theatre is part of the Arlington Center Historic District.
In recent years the 194-seat theatre was
extensively updated and made handicap-accessible.
With justified pride we can say that AFD Theatre is
among the finest area playhouses, with frequent
award-winning productions. As a community
theatre, almost every aspect of the theatre is run by
volunteers, from the actors, set-builders, costumers,
hair and makeup designers, lights, sound and stage
crew, to the box office and ushers. The theatre affords
any interested area resident a chance to participate
in and learn what goes on behind the scenes with
hands-on opportunities … no experience necessary!
Arlingtonians can also support the theater by
becoming subscribers for the season.
