Schools for Children, Inc. is a Massachusetts
nonprofit organization creating and managing great
schools and educational services.
Currently we operate three distinct programs/
schools in Arlington: Lesley Ellis School, an early
childhood, elementary and middle school; Dearborn
Academy, a special education school serving
students from the Greater Boston area; and the
STEP Program (Short Term Educational Placement),
an assessment and support program that helps
students in crisis get back on track. In addition, we
operate Seaport Academy, a small alternative school
for boys in grades 8-12.
We also develop new education services and
innovations and consult with other schools, districts
and human service providers to enhance the quality
and performance of their programs. Most recently
we launched our new initiative, the National Institute
for Student-Centered Education, which provides a
variety of opportunities and platforms for education
professionals to share ideas about trends in education
and for students, parents and teachers to share their
observations, thoughts and feelings on how those
trends are playing out at the school level.
